As part of its aim to strengthen the planning team of the Maltese Contingent for Poland 2027, the team is looking to onboard a Health and Safety Officer.
Role:
The Health and Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring the well-being of all participants and leaders within the Maltese Scout Contingent throughout the World Scout Jamboree. This role encompasses comprehensive risk assessment, emergency preparedness, and the establishment of safety protocols that align with both local and international Scouting guidelines. Working closely with the Contingent Management Team, the Health and Safety Officer proactively identifies potential hazards, implements preventive measures, and coordinates responses to any health or safety incidents.
The Health and Safety Officer is a cornerstone of the Maltese Scout Contingent’s success at the World Scout Jamboree. Through proactive risk assessments, robust emergency planning, and effective training, this individual will champion the well-being of every participant and leader. By collaborating closely with the Contingent Management Team, monitoring daily activities, and swiftly addressing potential hazards, the Health and Safety Officer ensures a secure, positive, and enriching experience for all. The ideal candidate brings strong organizational skills, clear communication, and a calm demeanour under pressure—traits essential to upholding the high standards of safety and care fundamental to the spirit of Scouting.
Skills Required:
An applicant for this role should have:
- Medical or Health and Safety Background. Ideally the candidate is a qualified medical professional.
- Experience in on-site situations like the Jamboree like for example mission-work (Preferred)
- Experience in creating and implementing Health and Safety policies and procedures including relevant Risk Assessment Implementation and Mitigation
- Comfortable working with youth and adults in diverse, multicultural settings
- High level of efficiency and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in managing complex situations, maintaining clear records, and responding quickly to emerging issues
- Able to remain composed in high-stress or emergency scenarios, making sound decisions to safeguard participants
- Knowledgeable in local and international legal guidelines related to youth protection and safeguarding
- Registered applicant with the Maltese Contingent for the World Scout Jamboree
