Training Commissioner

Help shape the leaders of Scouting.

The Scout Association of Malta is seeking a committed and thoughtful Training Commissioner to lead the direction, quality, and relevance of adult training across the Association.

This role is central to ensuring that Scout leaders are not only trained, but also formed and equipped to live Scouting values, support young people effectively, and sustain themselves as volunteers.

Your role:

  • Provide strategic leadership for adult training across the Association.

  • Safeguard the quality, consistency, and relevance of training provision.

  • Review, develop, and improve training pathways in line with:

    • the Youth Programme

    • Safe From Harm

    • the lived realities of Scout Groups

  • Lead, support, and coordinate the training team (trainers, assessors, mentors).

  • Promote a training culture that is:

    • accessible

    • supportive

    • values-driven

  • Work closely with the Chief Commissioner to shape and steward the Association’s approach to adult leadership development.

  • Balance standards with empathy, ensuring training enables rather than discourages volunteer engagement.

You’ll be great at this if you:

  • Are a Woodbadge holder.

  • Have a strong understanding of Scouting values and adult volunteer development.

  • Can think strategically while remaining grounded in Group-level realities.

  • Are comfortable upholding standards, even when this is challenging.

  • Communicate clearly, listen well, and build trust across different levels.

  • Are willing to commit time, energy, and presence to the role.

  • Can work autonomously while contributing to a shared leadership direction.

Accountability & Evaluation:

  • Report directly to the Chief Commissioner.

  • Contribute to agreed priorities and annual objectives.

  • Engage in regular reflection on progress, challenges, and impact.
