WSJ2027 Malta Contingent – Safe From Harm Officer

As part of its aim to strengthen the planning team of the Maltese Contingent for Poland 2027, the team is looking to onboard a Safe from Harm Officer.

Role:

The Safe from Harm Officer is responsible for promoting and safeguarding the emotional, psychological, and physical well-being of all participants within the Maltese Scout Contingent. Drawing on a background in mental health or a related field, this role centres on creating a supportive and protective environment that aligns with established Scouting policies and child protection standards. Through education, incident management, and proactive intervention, the Safe from Harm Officer ensures that best practices in mental health support and safeguarding are consistently upheld.

The Safe from Harm Officer (Mental Health Specialist) is integral to the emotional and physical security of everyone in the Maltese Scout Contingent at the World Scout Jamboree. Leveraging professional expertise in mental health, this individual proactively implements child protection measures, addresses participant concerns, and ensures alignment with global Scouting standards. By managing safeguarding incidents, training volunteers, and advocating for inclusive practices, the Safe from Harm Officer enhances the overall sense of trust and safety within the contingent. Ultimately, this role helps foster a positive environment where all Scouts can thrive and participate fully in the Jamboree experience.

An applicant for this role should have:

  • Mental Health Professional Background (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience providing mental health support or therapy, preferably to youth or within a community context.
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding frameworks, including risk assessments, protective interventions, and mandatory reporting.
  • Experience in creating and implementing Safe from Harm policies and procedures including relevant Risk Assessment Implementation and Mitigation
  • Proven ability to handle sensitive situations calmly, providing clear guidance and de-escalation strategies.
  • Comfortable working with individuals who may be experiencing acute stress or trauma.
  • Capable of delivering training sessions and written resources that are easily understood by youth, leaders, and volunteers.
  • Able to maintain thorough records of incidents, interventions, and follow-ups while respecting confidentiality.
  • Awareness of diverse cultural, religious, and personal backgrounds; committed to upholding inclusivity in all policies and practices.
