The Upgrading of Four Scout Centres for a Better Learning Experience

By 24/02/2026News

Project Reference: A2.12.2025

This project was undertaken jointly by four Scout Groups with the shared objective of upgrading their respective headquarters to provide safer, more comfortable, and more efficient learning and activity spaces for their members.

Across the four centres, the project focused on improving essential infrastructure — particularly plumbing and electrical systems — to better support weekend camps, sleep-over activities, educational programmes, and inter-group collaboration.

Infrastructure Improvements Across the Scout Centres

As part of this initiative:

  • Sliema Scout Group implemented several energy-efficiency upgrades, including improvements to plumbing and electrical systems, enhanced shower and kitchen facilities, the installation of energy-efficient floodlights on the headquarters façade, and new wall-mounted fans to improve ventilation and comfort during the summer months. These upgrades ensure reliable hot water during colder periods and improved cooling during warmer seasons.

  • Attard Scout Group focused on upgrading its plumbing system through the installation of a gas-powered water heater, water tank, and water pump. The project included the fabrication of a custom base platform, full piping and electrical connections, and the installation of a chimney and rain cover for the heating unit. These works now provide consistent hot water, improved water pressure, and better heating efficiency.

  • 1st Ħamrun Scout Group carried out a comprehensive electrical infrastructure upgrade to meet modern electrical demands and compliance standards. Works included distribution rewiring across key areas such as the kitchen, hall, and electrical room, as well as room rewiring in the games room, band room, and main electrical room. These upgrades improve functionality, safety, and readiness for contemporary, energy-efficient technologies.

Impact and Long-Term Benefits

The completed upgrades significantly enhance the usability and comfort of all four Scout headquarters. Members can now enjoy improved facilities during camps and sleep-overs, particularly in colder and hotter months, while groups are better equipped to host activities, training sessions, and visiting Scout Groups during overnight expeditions.

Beyond immediate comfort, the project contributes to safer, more reliable infrastructure that supports the long-term sustainability of each centre and the ongoing development of Scouting activities within the community.
