The recent Patrol Leaders’ Training Camp (PLTC) held between the 2nd and 4th of October 2025, brought together hundreds of enthusiastic Troop and dedicated leaders from across Malta and Gozo for a memorable event focused on developing the next generation of leadership. The camp, aimed specifically at Patrol Leaders and Assistant Patrol Leaders, proved to be a highly successful national event!

The Call for a good old PLTC
Locally many Troop Leaders wanted to help their patrol leaders and assistant patrol leaders advance in their leading skills. And what could be better than a National Patrol Leaders’ Training Camp (PLTC)? Ms Francesca Farrugia the assistant Troop commissioner noted that given the enthusiasm “The choice was natural”.
The response to the training camp was tremendous, with 240 troop members participating, supported by of 80 adult Leaders and Core team.
Overcoming Logistical Hurdles
The Troop section naturally challenges young teenagers to push themselves. Therefore, the leaders push themselves to continuously tackle the hurdle which is keeping teenagers challenged and engaged. Hence the planning team decided to start the camp from 4 different locations around Malta. Knowing that this would in itself require meticulous coordination and Scout-power, the planning team remained invested in making this challenge into a reality. They successfully overcame the challenge by strategically splitting the team in the initial phase and assigning trek leaders to guide participants seamlessly from each of the four starting points to the main campsite.

Another creative activity was Scoutsopoly. A real-life adaption of the board game many of us have grown to love. The Troop were divided into patrols, mixed with different ages and groups, and tasked to find all the shops, complete their tasks, and earn stickers. Which of course they took on with the utmost intensity. Each shop represented one of the utility stations on the board game. With Challenges to earn money to complete the tasks necessary to obtain stickers for their maps.
Team Work Makes the Dream Work
A major shout out goes to the entire Planning Team— Ms Francesca Farrugia the assistant Troop Commissioner, Events Commissioner Mr Sean Bartolo, Ms Lara Sultana, Mr Matteo Farrugia, Ms Kelsy Cascun and Mr Jeremy Muscat. Equally essential was the contribution of the kitchen staff.
Watching the Troop leave camp for home, the sound of laughter, hugs and making plans with others, it is easy to state that the Troop enjoyed their PLTC. While we tend to focus on discipline and safety, making memories along the way is just as important. So finally, a well-deserved final shout out to all member and leader participants for attending and truly making the 2025 Patrol Leaders’ Training Camp an unforgettable and memorable event for all of our scouts!
