Xaghra Scout Group’s ‘Safe & Sound’ project

By 13/08/2024News

‘Safe & Sound’ was a project implemented across the last 12 months by the Xaghra Scout Group. It aimed to empower its adults and young members to develop themselves in both a physical and social space that was safe from harm.

The project aimed to create a ‘Safe Space’ by equipping our headquarters with the appropriate tools and equipment to ensure that their members, especially young ones, remained protected. This involved investing in a First Aid AED equipment, a CCTV camera system, and a fire and intruder detection system.

Complementary with the ‘Safe Space’, the project also aimed to have ‘Safe Members’ by boosting the Safe from Harm culture within the group. ‘Safe from Harm’  is a policy developed by the World Organization of the Scout Movement which prioritises the safety of both young members and adults from harmful or abusive situations. Through a collaboration with FSWS Child Protection Services, the Xaghra Scout Group’s leaders were trained to understand national policies and deal with safeguarding topics. This has led to not only improved awareness of the topic but also be better equipped to deal with such situations. Other trainings such as Use of AED and Fire Drills were also conducted.

This project was only possible due to funding by the Ministry for Gozo and Planning Non-Governmental Organisations Assistance Scheme.
